Background of the Study
Cardiac arrest is a life-threatening emergency that requires immediate medical intervention to prevent death or severe complications. The success of resuscitation efforts significantly depends on the promptness and accuracy of the procedures followed by healthcare professionals. Nurses, as critical members of the resuscitation team, play an essential role in performing and adhering to cardiac resuscitation protocols, such as those outlined in the Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) guidelines. Studies have shown that timely and appropriate compliance with these protocols can improve patient survival rates following cardiac arrest. However, factors such as inadequate training, high workload, and stress can affect nurses' adherence to resuscitation protocols, potentially leading to suboptimal outcomes. In Nigeria, there is limited research on the impact of nurses' compliance with cardiac resuscitation protocols on patient survival rates, particularly in settings like the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe. This study aims to evaluate how well nurses adhere to these protocols and the impact on patient outcomes.
Statement of the Problem
Cardiac resuscitation is a critical aspect of emergency care, and the compliance of healthcare providers, especially nurses, with established resuscitation protocols is essential for improving patient survival rates. At the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, there is no clear data on how nurses' adherence to cardiac resuscitation protocols influences patient outcomes. Given the significance of these protocols in saving lives, understanding the current level of compliance among nurses and its impact on survival rates is essential for improving emergency care services. This study seeks to assess the level of compliance with cardiac resuscitation protocols by nurses and its effect on patient survival rates in this hospital.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on nurses working in emergency departments and intensive care units at Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe. It will evaluate their compliance with cardiac resuscitation protocols and examine the relationship between compliance and patient survival rates. Limitations of the study include potential biases in reporting compliance, as nurses may overstate or understate their adherence to protocols. Additionally, other factors influencing patient survival, such as patient health status and the timing of resuscitation, may not be fully captured in this study.
